MICHAEL VAN BODEGOM-SMITH

Michael Van Bodegom Smith is a Los Angeles-based composer, producer, and brass instrumentalist whose work spans animated children’s programming, indie film and theatre productions, and summer blockbusters. Hailing from Chicago, Michael honed his skills writing additional music for composers like Dara Taylor, JP Rende, and Amanda Jones, developing a reputation for his patient collaboration, rapid problem-solving, and innovative, out-of-the-box creative solutions.

Michael is a versatile composer and music director whose credits span film, television, and the stage. Trained under Emmy-nominated composer Dara Taylor, he contributed to The Invitation, Strays and Marvel’s Ironheart before scoring series like National Geographic’s Katrina, Netflix’s Princess Power and Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake, as well as flagship franchises Pokémon: Path to the Peak and Star Wars Outlaws.

Over the past five years he’s music-directed four full-length musicals (including two originals), written and recorded scores for seven plays in Los Angeles and Chicago, and seen one of his own award-winning musicals adapted into a feature film and workshopped nationally.

An active force in the LA music scene, Michael is a songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist whose credits include The Ghost of Molly McGee, Lego Star Wars and Zombies: The Reanimated Series. He’s a voting member of the Television and Recording Academies and a professional affiliate of the Society of Composers & Lyricists, the Composers Diversity Collective, the Alliance for Women Film Composers—and of course, WVZ MFG Publishing Co.
